On 30 October, interested Hamburg Branch members met in Seville to prepare for their visit to Airbus Defence & Space. The group was somewhat smaller this time, which may have been due to the participation requirements. It was the first time that we were unable to make blanket bookings for flights, trains or hotels through our branch. All participants had to make their own arrangements, which was not equally easy for everyone. We are still looking for solutions that make it easy for participants and do not leave us with the costs.
But now to the real highlight of our visit the Airbus facility in Seville. After passing through security checks, the group received a briefing on the base and the necessary safety regulations.
The main tasks at the Seville site are varied and mainly concern the A400M and C295 models. Seville is the global centre for the final assembly of the Airbus A400M military transport aircraft. This modern aircraft combines strategic and tactical transport capabilities and is used by several European armed forces.
Final assembly, test flights and deliveries to customers take place here, and maintenance and modernisation services are also available. The plant also offers MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul) services for aircraft that have already been delivered. These include inspections, repairs and upgrades by Airbus.
Another highlight here is the assembly of the C295, a lighter and versatile aircraft for transport, surveillance and rescue missions.
It can be used for military purposes as well as for civil rescue SAR and firefighting. We were thrilled and, as always, very eager to learn, which was well received by our Airbus colleagues, allowing us to have interesting conversations on site once again. This was already our second visit here, so we had the opportunity totry out the progress for ourselves. ‘Look and feel’ with VR glasses.
A big thank you to all our Airbus colleagues who made this visit possible and took the time to give us an insight into their job, vocation and passion.
